CHATHAM LOOP

Completion of the Chatham ‘Spur’ in 2004 will give Rail trail riders another option. Leaving the Rail Trail at the rotary in Harwich Center, you’ll ride along the Harwich ‘spur’ through the village center, Brooks Park and Thompson’s field to the Chatham town line. From there the new construction takes over and rolls along past the Chatham Airport down to the Chatham village center. From there you can pick up the on-street Chatham Shore Loop. The Loop will take you down Main St to the famous Chatham Coast Guard Lighthouse, the Fish Pier, along the shoreline and eventually back to the Rail Trail connector for your return ride back to Harwich. Roughly a 25 mile trip from the Bike Depot.

COAST GUARD BEACH

Coast Guard beach makes up part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. High dunes look east over the vast Atlantic, west over the great Nauset Marsh and north or south along the wide expanse of pure white sand beach for miles. The beach is reached by taking the 2 mile paved Nauset Trail off the Rail Trail at Locust St in Eastham. 17 miles from the Bike Depot, you will turn east on Locust and follow the signs a short distance to the Salt Pond Visitors Center, a worthy stop to rest and view exhibits and info on the Seashore. Exit the Visitor Center onto the Nauset Trail for a couple miles of some fun rolling riding through a postcard picture perfect setting. Total trip about 40 miles from the Bike Depot..

NICKERSON STATE PARK

Nickerson provides some moderately hilly terrain for a change of pace. Paved paths curl through the fir woods, around kettle ponds and up and down the hollows of the park. Nickerson offers picnic areas, swimming and rest rooms. The entrance is about 10 miles from the Bike Depot and you can ride park loops of 4 to 10 miles making for a great 25 mile+ ride with a diversion from the often straight and flat Rail Trail.
